on Wednesday we set out for our one and only adventure day. with only four full days, we wanted to spend more time relaxing, rather than adventuring, which i normally do on other vacations. we set out to explore isla mujeres, island of the women. we took a 45 minute boat ride to the island that has hugely grown in population in the last 20 years. when we arrived they a had 18 dolphins putting on a quick show, plus sharks and seals and manatees. we didn't plan to play with the dolphins; in my opinion I think it's sad they are captivated and it's something I just would rather pass on. we took a paid taxi to an all-inclusive beach park, so to say, with snorkeling, kayaking, bike riding, free lunch and drinks, and lots of beautiful places to lay out. snorkeling wasn't quite as good as it was in Bali, but we did see a sting ray, which are my absolute favorite. the water there is also incredibly beautiful and it's neat to see cancun from the island. one of my favorite things about the island was the bar swings. hands down coolest thing I've seen in a while for an ADD kid like me. we really enjoyed the day and also paid $5 to do a 3-part zipline over the ocean. I've done a fair amount of ziplining in my day, but ever over the ocean is super different than tree ziplining. we basically ziplined from tower to tower, one in a tree, one in the ocean, and one on the beach. it was only mildly scary, but definitely a little more comforting than when we went to the treetop adventure in Bali with no supervision 70 feet up in the trees.
before we headed back to cancun at the dock we stopped at the bar to get some goodbye drinks and met some people from brazil. two of them, a married couple, spoke no english at all. the other was a cute Brazilian named felipe who is an engineer in oil and gas. once we headed to the boat we were a little tipsy. to our surprise, and enjoyment, as we walked on the boat ace of bace's "all that she wants" was playing, which is my go-to karaoke song. we met up with the brazilians and the boat people continued to serve unlimited amounts of free beer. then shit got cray. the music got more party oriented and by the end we (me) were standing on speakers and dancing to the music. lots of LMFAO. good times in cancun.
we headed back to the hotel, had some more drinks and attempted to get ready for a big night of going out. I of course brought my three wigs (I got a new fuchsia one last month) for all of us to wear. what a hit! everyone in the hotel loved us. we had a 10pm reservation at the fanciest restaurant in the hotel - silk. sashimi and tepanyaki. good stuff. by this point I wasn't feeling super hot from the day drinking and long day. around midnight we retired and called it a successful day. isla mujeres, sting rays, free booze, bar swings, brazilians, boat dancing and wigs called for fun in the sun.
